Paul Cooper

Paul has specialized in criminal and regulatory law for over 25 years. He is a tireless defender who prides himself in finding creative and cost-effective solutions for his clients. Paul was previously a Federal prosecutor, where he focused on drug and tax prosecutions.

Paul’s wide-ranging trial expertise includes cases of impaired driving, theft, assault and murder. He regularly represents young people charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and has significant experience defending drug charges, as well as regulatory offences under the Income Tax Act, the Environmental Protection Act, the Labour Act, the Building Code, and the Fisheries Act.

Paul’s business experience outside the law has provided him with the expertise to effectively defend businesses and individuals facing white-collar criminal allegations, including complex fraud cases.

Paul is a graduate of Osgoode Hall law school and has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Economics and International Finance. While at law school, Paul spent a term at Oxford University studying International Law at S. Edmund Hall.

Paul is founder of the popular Garage Series, a regular Continuing Professional Development event that brings together members of the legal community in a fun and informal setting.

Paul currently services the legal community as a Bencher of the Law Society of Ontario. He is a member of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association, the Canadian Bar Association, the Toronto Lawyers Association and the York Regional Law Association. As a dedicated advocate for equality in the legal profession, Paul is an annual sponsor of the CLA Women in Criminal Law conference.

Lisa Jørgensen

Lisa is a committed and experienced advocate. Prior to joining Cooper Jørgensen, Lisa worked for a top Bay Street law firm and another leading criminal defence firm. Lisa started her legal career as a student at the Crown Law Office – Criminal, and as a clerk for the justices of the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

Lisa maintains a busy trial and appellate practice. She regularly appears in all levels of court in Ontario, as well as before the Consent and Capacity Board and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Lisa has experience defending professionals facing disciplinary proceedings, including allegations of sexual or financial misconduct.

Lisa is a member of the Board of Directors of the Criminal Lawyers Association. Lisa frequently volunteers her time with pro bono litigation and education projects, including Pro Bono Law Ontario’s Supreme Court Leave to Appeal Project and Innocence Canada. Lisa also represents individuals before the Court of Appeal for Ontario on a pro bono basis.

Lisa is a graduate of the University of British Columbia’s Allard School of Law. She graduated as a Wesbrook Scholar – UBC’s top accolade. She was the recipient of many awards, including the HSBC Emerging Leader Scholarship and the Boyd Ferris Memorial Prize in Advocacy. Lisa is a former top oralist and winner of the national Gale Cup Moot, as well as a former competitor at the World Universities Debating Championships. Lisa holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Political Studies from Queen’s University.

Lisa is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Advocates Society, the Canadian Bar Association, the Criminal Lawyers’ Association, and the Toronto Lawyers Association.
